Maison203 Faces Off with 3D Printed Kalikon Jewelry at Maison et Objet Paris

February 8, 2022 |

Maison 203 opens the new year by presenting the new “Kalikon” collection in Paris, at the Maison et Objet fair, a major international exhibition for luxury design and interior decoration, taking place from January 22nd to the 26th. Designer Giulio Iacchetti created the new collection in which aesthetics and functionality, geometry and movement, mechanics and style mix by combining talent and the use of 3D printing for proposing hidden closing mechanisms. The collection, which includes two necklaces, one long necklace, two pairs of earrings and one ring, is based on a series of 3D printed rings that are combined together. The addition of ball joints makes the bijoux’s structure fully flexible. This unique motion is due to the presence of a small space on the outer circumference of each ring, a track that houses the joint connecting one element to another. The lack of rigidity and the ability to move freely makes Kalikon…    read more

Jewel 3D Printing Is Elementary with New App from Elements Lab

February 5, 2022 |

Jewellery making is one of the crafts that best shows what 3D printing can offer in terms of mass-customized, on-demand production. Not just in terms of new possibilities, but also for broadening design and production access to a wide range of young creatives and startups. Elements Lab, a young company based in Taiwan and led by founder Ting Tang, began by offering a small scale 3D printing service. As the business and their design proficiency grew, they have expanded by leveraging new commercial channels, for example by opening a Shapeways Shop. As their business grew, Elements Lab found jewellery to be the ideal product for exploring 3D printing. They have thus opened the EL Jewellery Maker portal to focus specifically on 3D printed and lost-wax cast rings, pendants, and other small decorative items. “We’ve been using 3D printing technology for quite a few years now. We understand the magic of 3D printing…    read more

Maison 203 Reinvents 3D Printed Clutch at 2016 Milan Fashion Week

January 27, 2022 |

Last year, the Treviso, Italy-based fashion design house Maison 203 awed the fashion world with the Armure, a 3D printed clutch designed with a unique mixture of organic and geometric characteristics, taking after the spherical nature of the cypress fruit. Since then, Maison 203 has kicked off 2016 with their new Kalikon jewelry collection, featuring six different 3D printed pieces at the Maison et Objet fair this past January. Now, Maison 203 is refocusing back on the clutch bag, and have created the tropical-inspired Ivy, their newest 3D printed clutch designed by Odo Fioravanti. Once again, Maison 203 has used 3D printing and design to explore the dialogue between nature and artifice, creating a flowery and hypnotic clutch bag. The Ivy clutch is first printed in laser sintered nylon, and is then redefined and hand-colored in powder blue, soft white, brick red, and jungle green. Fioravanti’s design features overlapping surfaces…    read more

Casting 3D Prints into precious metals like Silver and Gold

January 21, 2022 |

There are many things to take into consideration when looking to cast 3D prints into metals. Here’s a breakdown of the process, from Design to Print to Cast. It is no longer the case that the jewellery designer is necessarily doing this with his/her hands because designing a piece of jewellery no longer requires us to consider or to have any knowledge of its material counterpart. In fact, the new age jewellery designer often sits about as far away from the production of that piece of jewellery as is feasibly possible. However, understanding the complex process that turns your STL file into a shiny piece of finished jewellery is quite literally the key to great design. Below is a brief outline of some crucial things to consider when designing a piece of jewellery that you aim to 3D print and cast into metal, followed by a short summary of the…    read more

High fashion meets 3D printing

December 31, 2021 |

Fashion designer Irina Tosheva has turned to the Zortrax M200 to create bespoke fashion accessories and ornaments that have taken her designs to a higher plane. At SS16, the fashion show in Kosovo that pays homage to the vibrant Eastern European design fraternity, Tosheva stood out from the crowd. She did so with a scintillating combination of interesting designs and integrated technology. She had something different to offer. She had a 3D printer. Even haute couture counts the cost Even in the world of high fashion, designers are limited in terms of materials. Truly bespoke buttons, fastenings and more cost a vast amount when they’re produced by traditional methods. Ornate additions to outfits, meanwhile, add a layer of complexity that often means the designer rules them out. A 3D printer, though, can produce bespoke items at a low cost. That means the designer can just focus on breathtaking designs. They…    read more
